Sean Park

Sean Park

Sean Park, MA, was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario where he grew up riding bicycles on the escarpment and witnessed suburbia overtake forest and field. He attended McMaster University where he completed a BHSc. degree with local and national distinction for contributions to undergraduate education.

Sean went on to pursue a degree in law, however, being disillusioned with the state of legal education, left law school in pursuit of changing how we educate. After a year working as an education research assistant at McMaster University, Sean completed his MA in Theory and Policy Studies at the University of Toronto where his thesis focused on inquiry-based learning as an ecological, self-organization system.

During his time in Toronto, Sean studied Dao-In Yoga and BaguaZhang with Sifu Dylan Kirk, Boalian-inspired Theatre of the Oppressed training, sat a number of 10 day silent Vipassana meditation retreats, and attended training workshops with Gregory Kramer and Jon Kabat-Zinn.

These experiences lead to movement and contemplative inquiry becoming an integral part of his teaching and scholarship. Sean has taught a number of undergraduate courses on Complex Adaptive Systems and Environmental Issues at McMaster University and offers training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. He is active as a scholar and has published a number of academic papers on a range of topics in education.

Now living in Vancouver, Sean is a Nei Gong and Tai Chi student of Sifu Lou Crockett at Blue Mountain Nei Gong, musical director of Funk Depot Samba Orchestra, and student in the Arts Education PhD stream at Simon Fraser University working with Heesoon Bai and Celeste Snowber.
